Fighting Fire With A Fire Suppression System

There are many advantages for a homeowner to install a fire suppression system. Some of those advantages of installing a fire suppression system within the home are a possible discount on one's home owner's insurance policy and the possible protection of the complete loss of valuables.

However, probably the most significant advantage of installing this type of system within the home is the protection of a family. Therefore, if considering the installation of a fire suppression system it is important to know a number of factors. Those factors include the basic components that compile fire suppression and how the system functions.

Components To A Fire Suppression Unit

An acceptable rule of practice is to have a professional company conduct an assessment of the building that is being considered for the fire suppression system. This analysis will allow for the professional to make certain recommendations based on the building and help to recommend a specific fire suppression unit to help mitigate risk.

The basic components that comprise a fire suppression system generally include a number of key components. Some of those key components include a panel, heat sensors, sprinkler system, warning alert system, etc.

Additionally, there are specific options available within the use of these components. For example, if a sprinkler system is chosen as part of the suppression system, there are two choices that the building owner can make.

One of those choices is to utilize water as the fire suppression agent. When a flame is detected the heat sensors then activate the sprinkler system to operate and allow the water to douse the flames.

Another option is to utilize a mist system of dousing the flames. This particular use of controlled water disbursement is very effective in controlling any flames and minimizes damage to stored materials in proximity. However, the use of a mist sprinkler system is more expensive than the standard sprinkler system.

How The System Functions

The workings of a fire suppression system are that heat sensors, sprinkler units, alarms, emergency lighting are all wired through the control panel of the unit. In the event of an episode the various components are activated through the panel.

The panel is generally programmable. This allows for the controller to shut the system down if need be or activate the system during set times of the day. In addition, some of these systems allow for an outside service to monitor the fire suppression system.
